Farmhouse weddings in Girona: how to choose yours

Girona's farmhouses offer something few venues can: the whole estate to yourselves, with the house, the gardens and your guests sleeping there. These are the questions worth asking yourselves before you choose.

Why a farmhouse

A farmhouse is more than a pretty setting. At many of them, the whole estate is rented for the wedding or for the weekend: there are no other celebrations at the same time, nobody rushes you and the party can carry on at its own pace. And if it has bedrooms, the wedding becomes a gathering of several days with your loved ones.

What to look for

Two farmhouses from our collection

Can Riera de la Pineda, in Arbúcies, at the foot of the Montseny: a farmhouse set among woods, fields and a stream, for the whole weekend, with nine bedrooms and room for 18 to 300 guests. You can marry at the hermitage, in the old hay barn, by the stream or among the hydrangeas, and you choose the caterer.

Mas Cufí, in Serinyà, between Banyoles and Besalú: a recently restored 19th-century stone farmhouse, yours from Friday to Sunday, with eight bedrooms and room for 25 to 150 guests. The ceremony and dinner take place outdoors in front of the house; the wooden porch is for the party and for plan B.

When to marry

Spring and early autumn are the loveliest times inland in Girona. In summer, ceremonies are held once the sun is low, and the nights cool down. Spring and September dates are the most sought after, so it's worth booking well ahead.

How guests get there

Girona is under forty minutes from Barcelona by high-speed train and has its own airport. From there, the last stretch is by car or with the transport arranged for the wedding.
