Your wedding planning timeline: what to do and when
Planning a wedding is a series of small decisions. Made on time and in the right order, they're a pleasure. This is the timeline a wedding planner works with.

18 to 12 months before
- Decide what kind of wedding you want, how many guests and a rough budget.
- Choose the date, or at least the season.
- Find and book the venue. It's the first thing to go, especially in spring and September.
- If you're going to work with a wedding planner, now is the time.
12 to 8 months before
- Book the key suppliers: catering (if the venue doesn't include it), photography, video and music.
- Settle on the style and décor. This is the moment to see your wedding in 3D and fine-tune the proposal.
- Send save-the-dates to guests travelling from afar.
8 to 4 months before
- Flowers, stationery, transport and guest accommodation.
- Dress, suit and fittings.
- Menu tasting.
- Invitations.
4 months to 1 month before
- Guest confirmations and the table plan.
- A running order for the day, with timings for each supplier.
- Final décor details.
The last week
- Final confirmation with every supplier.
- Dropping off everything that goes to the venue: stationery, details, gifts.
- And rest. From here on, your wedding planner coordinates the day.
If you have less time
